From pharmaceuticals and biotechnology to artisanal food production and pottery workshops, Neues Klybeck is a vibrant place with a wide variety of uses.

Neues Klybeck is a place for people who get things done

The KLY675 collective unites individuals seeking a larger workspace, which they have found in the Neues Klybeck. Architects, graphic designers, craftspeople, artists and scenographers now work in the studios, workshops and communal spaces here. They potter, cook, animate, design and create.

Various food producers also operate in Neues Klybeck. The tofu manufacturer ‘Tuyu Tofu’ produces its speciality on site using an authentic Korean recipe and Swiss organic soya beans. Jungle Brothers produce organic kombucha without additives, while Hard Labor Brew brews craft beers with character. Chrüterhüsli combines a laboratory, warehouse and packaging area under one roof, offering 3,000 products.

Between workbench and laboratory

Young companies in the immediate vicinity also find suitable infrastructure for growth and development in the Neues Klybeck area. These include start-ups such as Mycrobez, a Basel-based company that develops natural foams from organic waste and fungi as an alternative to plastic. Another example is Sintares AG, which manufactures sustainable binders for paints and varnishes.

An international life sciences cluster is already taking shape in the Neues Klybeck, alongside start-ups and creative professionals. With new, state-of-the-art laboratory and development spaces at Neues Klybeck, the environment for growth, exchange, and cooperation will continue to expand in the coming years.

Life sciences in the Neues Klybeck

For example, Wesemann Schweiz AG has been operating on the site for several years. The company specialises in providing laboratory equipment to schools, universities, and the private sector, and has already offered its services to other companies on the site. Valuable synergies are emerging, from which companies benefit thanks to short distances.

In addition to Novartis, which continues to occupy premises in the Neues Klybeck, innovative biotech companies such as LifeMine and MonteRosa Therapeutics have also set up shop here. Around 1,000 students from the KV School Basel currently use the buildings in the Neues Klybeck for their daily studies.

In the near future, a new laboratory and office building called FLOW will be constructed on the site. It is located close to the Rhine and will offer space specifically for companies in the life sciences sector. This multi-tenant building in the southern part of Neues Klybeck is expected to be ready for occupation in Q3 2029. This will further strengthen Neues Klybeck's position as a hub for innovation and research.

Where everyday life meets the future

The historic Klybeck Canteen (Klybeck 610) is an important meeting place in the neighbourhood. The staff of Ryago AG prepare around 4,500 meals every day in its industrial kitchen. The reinforced concrete building, designed by architects Suter + Suter and opened in 1967, is an iconic venue with restaurants, event spaces and meeting places where people from the area still come together and mingle today.

A wide variety of people are already working, researching, producing, learning and creating in the Neues Klybeck, making the site a vibrant place. Many more will join them in future and play a direct role in shaping the site and its transformation.
